The first question we ask every prospect or client when we discuss project delivery is, "What is the Purpose?" We want to understand why you are doing that project, or why your PMO exists. Rarely do we get an answer back that actually defines the Purpose.
When we don't understand "why we are doing something" we miss the opportunity to build an emotional connection with our work. Our teams are "working on a project" rather than "increasing revenue to drive company expansion" for example.
Certain industries understand this better than others. Healthcare, Education, Non-Profits in many instances thrive because their messaging is tied to Purpose. With the many stresses and forces working against our teams these days we need to build an environment where they feel valued and part of the larger mission.
