Serving, and Learning, from the Project Management Community

One of the privileges I have as founder of The PMO Squad is to attend and speak at PMO and project management events. The past 30 days have been a whirlwind as I’ve flown from one side of the continent to the other and around the globe (virtually) during The PMO Leader Annual Global conference. I think I’ve been on the road more than Taylor Swift!   

What Have I Learned? 

Besides the fact that project management is alive and well, and that there are a lot of great people in the profession, I’ve also learned that each type of event has its own personality. For example: 

• Local Events - Home is where the heart is. Familiar faces are everywhere, and deep relationships are fostered. There’s a warmth and familiarity with attendees as you enter an event and look forward to spending time together with friends. 
• Regional / National Events - Take a local event and multiply it by 5, 10, or 20! This is the perfect combination of the old and the new. Here you find the right mix of old friends and new faces, familiar ideas, and ideas that stretch you.  
• Global Events - This is where we see how much we have in common, and how different we are at the same time. Global events allow us to relish the similarities and celebrate the differences. Most importantly, attendees walk away with, “I never would have thought about it doing it that way,” and bring these ideas back to their next local event! 

How Does this Help You? 

Being a presenter and attendee at so many great events and rubbing shoulders with project management and PMO thought leaders influences the way The PMO Squad operates. The cross-pollination of ideas inspires us to get out of our comfort zone and help our clients do the same.  

And from a local, regional, and global perspective, we’ve learned to value our deep relationships, create programs and initiatives that scale, and always be open to a better and different way of doing things. It’s that knowledge we hope to share with our clients, to better serve them.
